Port Charlotte 10 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from Islay, distilled by Adam Hannett at the Bruichladdich distillery. It is a very peaty whisky, typical of its island of origin, with a concentration of 40 ppm.
The barley is 100% Scottish, from the county of Inverness. Spring water from the Isle of Islay also plays a vital role, particularly in the fermentation process. After pot-still distillation, the whisky is placed in bourbon and French wine casks. The final blend is made up of 75% bourbon-aged whiskies and 25% whiskies from French oak.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the peat coats the nostrils with a gourmet, almost chocolaty roundness. The cereals are soft, chewy and consistent, and their milk chocolate shell makes them melt in the mouth, so that we can already imagine a nice chewiness in the mouth.
The aeration develops even more deliciousness, with a good ladleful of vanilla that settles in gently. The peat is still present, of course, but there's no prominent angle, no dryness or minerality.
The palate offers a round, fatty texture on the attack, before rising in intensity with a handful of spices thrown into the wood fire. The peat smoke seems oily, so it's definitely greedy, tasty as toast.
The finish returns to malted and toasted cereals, with a vanilla glaze.
"A whisky that is both peaty and very gourmand, full of mellowness and vanilla..."

Well received, as expected.
Price a little high but glad to be able to RE - test (I had tasted it at a tasting)
without buying a bottle.
