Rhum Transat Millésime 2009 is a very old rum produced by Charbonnaud. It was born in the Antilles, in the north of Martinique. It spent most of its 10 years of ageing there. It then traveled by boat across the Atlantic Ocean, benefiting from the roll and spray of the sea. On its arrival in France, the Maison Jacoulot, a famous producer of Burgundy marcs and fines, took care of its final maturation. This was carried out in barrels of great Burgundy wines.
This 2009 vintage is a single cask, producing just 374 bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we find an extremely fruity and fresh rhum agricole. We stroll through an orchard full of white and yellow peaches, apricots, pears and apples. The cane is totally candied and impregnated with fruit.
Aeration allows us to explore the woodiness, as well as a broad palette of spicy nuances. Earl Grey tea and fragrant blond tobacco are placed on a still-fresh orange peel. Then it seems that the whole has been heated to develop notes of cigar and jammy fruit.
The palate is immediately charmed by an extremely mature and tender cane. Woody tannins quickly melt into a sort of apricot jam. This jam is reminiscent of certain rum babas, glazed on top. Orange and orange peel are also present, along with vanilla-scented tobacco.
The finish is long, sustained by dried fruits such as apricot and mango, with a hint of pepper.
"This fruity rum is so delicious and fragrant..."
