Rom de Luxe Wild Series No 27 Enmore 1990 is a Guyana molasses rum produced by the former Enmore distillery, a few years before its closure.

It was distilled in December 1990 in the famous Versailles wooden iron still. This still is still in use at the Diamond distillery, but has not been in operation for some years. The rum bears the mark MEV, which stands for "Main Enmore Versailles". It was aged in a continental climate in an American barrel that had previously contained bourbon.

Bottling of cask number 16 produced a total of 185 units worldwide. It was bottled in April 2022 at the natural cask strength, i.e. without the addition of water.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, pencil peelings sign off a profile typical of 1990 Versailles. This vegetal, slightly woody profile soon becomes increasingly candied, with sweet herbs caught in a syrup of mild spices.

With a little aeration, the herbal spices take us to cumin and caraway, seeds rich with a sticky, licorice-like sap. Bitter almond enters the picture to add a pastry nuance, despite the overall impression of freshness.

On the palate, the woodiness and vegetal notes are reminiscent of burnt straw, with a slight impression of smoke, charring and a hint of minerality that takes us in the direction of cherry or prune pits. A pastry-like profile emerges on the mid-palate, releasing a lovely greediness accompanied by a fatty texture.

The finish is both full-bodied and pastry-like, giving it a remarkable balance of liveliness and flavor.

In comparison, the other cask of this Rom de Luxe Wild Series No 27 Enmore 1990, 54. 4%, is quite similar. It joins this rum in its pastry nuances and pencil-peel signature. It is distinguished by the appearance of more roasted notes, as well as a few hints of citrus. As for the cask, it brings out a little more freshness and liveliness overall.
