Rom de Luxe Wild Series No 27 Enmore 1990 54,4° : Description and customer reviews

Rom de Luxe Wild Series No 27 Enmore 1990 is a molasses rum from the Demerara River region of English Guyana.

The rum comes from the traditional wooden Versailles still of the legendary Enmore distillery, closed since 1994. It therefore bears the mark MEV (Main Enmore Versailles). Distilled in December 1990, the rum was then placed in an ex-American bourbon barrel bearing the number 15. It was aged in a continental climate for 31 years, until April 2022, when it was bottled by the Danish brand Rom de Luxe.

A total of 170 numbered bottles were produced from this unique cask, bottled without reduction in alcohol content.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, there's the typical Enmore (Versailles) character of that year, with a dry, fragrant, pencil-peel vegetal character. Old age has laid down a fat, gently spicy balm that generously coats it all.

Aeration allows a harmony to develop between vegetal and sweet spices, giving way to a new, now pastry-like component. It's the almond, seemingly extracted from the plant, that brings about this new movement. It's still a little green, but already very soft and almost milky.

The palate is full-bodied and spicy, like dark chocolate with chili. The highly charred oak disperses roasted and mineral notes, which then evoke toasted walnuts. All this adds up to a pastry profile, always signed by almond milk with nuances of candied vegetables.

The finish is sweet and pastry-like, with coconut milk, lime zest and stone brandy.

"A profile typical of Enmore 1990, between pencil peelings and pastry notes, with a lovely coating brought on by maturity..."

By comparison, the other cask of this Rom de Luxe Wild Series No. 27 Enmore 1990 at 53. 9% is quite similar, though perhaps more marked by a hint of herbal and spicy bitterness. The cask tasted here, however, is not lacking in relief, as it is lifted by a roasted character and a little citrus acidity. In any case, the two casks come together on the pastry character offered by bitter almond.
