Saint Aubin 15 ans 45°: Description and customer reviews

This 15-year-old comes from the artisanal rum distillery where Saint Aubin pot stills its rum.

Like the 10-year-old version, this is a 2003 vintage.

The heart of the toast aged for 15 years in oak barrels imported from Scotland before being bottled.

This is a limited series of just 309 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose immediately imposes a sense of calm and serenity, inviting us to take our time. The rum sits comfortably on a cane mattress, sprinkled with tonka bean. A few prunes and their pits bask, accompanied by small candied cherries and dried apricots.

Aeration continues to establish the complexity of this rum. Behind a hint of roasted nut smoke, we find a full-bodied almond, which still carries a hint of slightly green aromas.

On the palate, the attack is frank and very enveloping. The concentration is striking for a rum with a relatively mild degree. After a large ray of sunshine on the palate, the rum glides over nuts, then heads for a small cloud of almost peaty smoke. This mid-palate is surprising and amusing, and is immediately followed by a very ripe and tender cane au naturel. The woodiness begins to embrace the cane, led by hints of tobacco and sweet spices.

The finish is woody but still full of cane juice. In the long finish, the smoke reappears and our rum begins to mimic mezcal.

"A complex, chiseled rum that plays an original score full of surprises..."

The cap was unfortunately broken when I tried to open it.
