Savanna Blanc HERR Edition 2022 is a high ester rum from Reunion Island. Expert in the production of highly aromatic rums, the Savanna distillery has been located on the Bois Rouge sugar plant in Saint-André since 1992.
This cuvée is made from molasses fermented for 11 days, then distilled in 2019 by Thierry Grondin (batch HR.05.19), the creator of Savanna's high ester rums and great aromas. It is a wild, exuberant and fruity rum with an ester content of 796 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol.
The production of this 2022 edition is limited to a total of 2600 bottles.
Nico's tasting note
On the nose, the freshness of black and red fruits wins in the first moments, with a tannic skin and concentrated juices that stick intensely to the nostrils. Then the fruit opens up to something more yellow (peach, banana candy...), before turning to furiously exotic fruits.
With aeration, we manage to get deeper and deeper notes, more and more pastry-like, true to a typical "grand aroma" style. The candied fruits are heavy and tinged with resin, they seem to be dripping while they are straight out of an olive brine bath.
On the palate, the rum melts instantly on the tongue, like a handful of soft, tangy candies. At their core, a peppery green olive brine that surprises and grips, then melts in turn as it spreads over an overripe pineapple. The red and black berries come back with their tannins, we think of blackberry, blackcurrant, and why not raspberries and wild strawberries.
The finish is like freshly squeezed pineapple juice, still a bit vegetal and almost resinous.
"A not so strange UFO, within which we find the essence, the heart of what makes rum..."
