SBS Origin Jamaica is an unaged molasses rum bottled by 1423 SBS. This bottling is part of the collection entitled The 1423 S.B.S Origin Selection.
The aim of the latter is to showcase unaged rums specifically selected for their different profiles and aromatic power.
Here we have a Jamaican white rum produced in 2021 at Long Pond. The distillery is not specified, but the TECA marks easily point us to this house. It was pot still distilled. The ester content is between 1200 and 1300 g/hlap.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is filled with fruity, almost candied, solvents, the kind you might find in fruitcake or rum raisin ice cream. The power and concentration of the aromas are remarkable, while the fruit becomes increasingly wild and imposing.
With aeration, the rum gains even more fullness. The fruit is infinitely generous, and can be seen from every angle, from the skin to the stone, the flesh and even the stems and leaves.
On the palate, this is a full-bodied rum, as you'd expect. A certain coppery sensation greets us, immediately followed by a full, oily texture that moves the aromas towards pits. Very ripe exotic fruits with velvety flesh follow, then melt into an oily, almost creamy rum, tinged with almond milk and pastry notes of candied fruit.
The finish is tirelessly nourished by candied exotic fruits, with a hint of resinous herbs and a touch of iodine that settle in over the long finish.
"A small Jamaican miracle, proving once again the enormous potential of white rums, even molasses rums..."
