Aurora is the second expression offered by the Wolfburn distillery.
It is a combination of 20% first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, 40% first-fill bourbon casks and 40% small second-fill bourbon casks.
This whisky is not chill-filtered before bottling.
Florian's tasting notes
A young, malty, smoky, fruity nose. Sweet white fruit, fresh apple, ripe pear and coconut.
Aeration brings depth and sherried notes, with hints of nuts and raisins. Woody and roasted, with cocoa and vanilla.
The palate is lively and tannic, with spicy, peppery, malty oak. Nuts, cocoa and quickly bitter chocolate orangette appear.
The whole is enveloped in a very fine smoke. A touch of honey and white fruit is added.
The finish is quite long on spices, liquorice and smoke.
"The small amount of sherry cask aging comes through relatively well, this fruity/sherried/peaty blend is very well balanced. Wolfburn is young but offers fine distillates."
