This Special Casks Series is a molasses rum distilled, aged and blended in the cellars of Worthy Park, Jamaica's oldest distillery. It is located in the parish of Saint Catherine.
This rum was distilled in 2011 in the Forsyths double retort copper pot still, then aged for 11 years in Jamaica's tropical climate.
In the first stage, the rum was aged for 8 years in American white oak barrels that had previously contained bourbon. In a second phase, the rum was transferred to French ex-cognac casks for a further 3 years.
No fewer than 8 casks were blended and bottled in 2022. This rum is not cold-filtered.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, this Worthy Park offers a relatively more "serious" profile than we're used to. There's something a little more serious, a little more solemn than usual, with a deep woodiness that firmly encloses a very ripe banana.
With aeration, the rum takes on more color and becomes a little more playful, while retaining a certain elegance, for a very pleasant balance. The almond milk weaves its way between the dried banana and the cognac cask, adding a dense, mellow, umami quality.
The palate is relatively powerful, as evidenced by the spicy tingle on the attack, which is immediately taken up by a wave of woody, gently spicy tannins. Pepper and oak confirm the seriousness of the nose, taking their time to deliver the exotic, fruity rum that lies beneath the surface.
The finish is in the same vein, a rather taut rum that discreetly delivers notes of cherry pit and very ripe banana.
"A Worthy Park that's tighter than usual, to be discovered by fans of the distillery..."
