ZN09 is a bottling project born of the passion of two childhood friends, Grégory and Alain.
For their Samouraï series and first rum selection, they chose a molasses rum distilled in 2012 and aged 8 years in Jamaica, at Worthy Park Estate.
Produced from a single barrel, this cuvée was bottled in April 2023 after 2 years of continental aging.
This is an unreduced, brut de fût rum, produced in 234 numbered bottles.
The beautifully decorated label features a samurai, as do the other bottles in this series.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the typical banana bread note associated with the Worthy Park distillery comes through, but there are also sweet sour notes drawn directly from the fermented molasses. This is an expression of character that knows how to arouse interest and stand out from the crowd.
With aeration, a large ladle of frangipane comes through the door, full of butter, cream, freshly ground almond powder and still very fatty. The greediness is impressive, sustained by a steady power.
The palate is quite stunning, with fiery, roasted fruit depositing coppery, almost smoky nuances in all four corners of the palate. Then our banana bread comes out of the oven, with its overripe banana, fully caramelized butter and sweet spices. The latter include a few grains of cumin and caraway, adding a touch of resin.
The finish is lightly burnt, fresh and spicy, with toasty oak settling into the length.
"A Worthy Park with typically gourmet aromas, this time enhanced by a lovely resinous intensity..."
