Barikenn Montebello 52° is an agricultural rum from Guadeloupe. It comes to us from the Carrère distillery, located in Basse-Terre. It is made only from red cane, which makes it a single-varietal rum.
The rum was distilled in 2019, then it was patiently brewed and reduced to 52° until June 2022, when it was bottled.
Only 551 bottles were released to the market.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this red cane is dry and purposeful, with a solid, upright bark that leads the alcohol with firmness. The vegetal, almost earthy side of the fresh cane shows the same seriousness, before a certain spicy roundness makes its appearance.
Aeration brings freshness, and the cane finds itself caught in an almost iodized breeze. Its vegetal side is all the more expressive, and deliciously so.
The palate is surprisingly sweet, with a round, oily, even sticky texture. This is just what's needed to bring deliciousness to the most vegetal, fresh and dry aspects of the cane, which then has plenty of time to unfold its natural, herbaceous aromas.
The finish is lightly coppery and lingers on fine pepper and geranium.
"A cane of character served by a velvety touch...".
