Black Magic - Black Spiced is a blend of Caribbean rums with added spices. This tradition dates back to the early days of rum, when the sometimes difficult taste of tafias and guildives was masked. Today, the quality of rum is much better, but the tradition has remained, and each brand has its own secret recipe for infusing spices.
The name Black Magic also refers to another Caribbean tradition: black magic. Whether it's called Voodoo or Quimbois, it's still alive and well, and still plays tricks on the unfortunate bewitched.
This spiced rum is a "black rum", typically used to pair with cola. But its profile also allows it to swim easily in a variety of cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, this rum is of the very gourmand, caramelized variety. One might think of crème brûlée, or even of the caramel used to coat cakes. A few creamier notes come to mind, before a hint of orange peel wakes us up.
On the palate, the rum is smooth and immediately explores its most roasted corners. Coffee, roasted nuts and well-cooked maple syrup are present. The caramel is very tasty on the mid-palate, its sweetness seemingly underpinned by bold vanilla.
