Braud & Quennesson is a rum factory located on the Grand Fonds housing site. Open since the end of 2022, this new rum brand takes the names of the two founders of the nearby Le Marin factory.
Joseph Quennesson and Charles Harouard founded the Marin factory at the end of the 19th century, and even in 1869. They were joined a few years later by Charles Jean Braud, who became the majority shareholder. For many years, the Le Marin sugar factory concentrated sugarcane production in the south of Martinique. It then declined in the face of the rise in beet sugar production.
After closing in 1970, the new rum factory on the Grand Fonds housing site in Le Marin was officially launched on November 23, 2022.
Here it is the 50° version that we offer you. This vintage of agricultural white rum is produced under the supervision of Stéphanie Dufour, the cellar master who worked at A1710, Dillon and Depaz.
This rum is distilled at the Simon factory like the HSE and Clément rums.
The microclimate of the cane plantations around the estate is very special. The brix (sweetness level) of the first harvest is quite high, giving the rum a nice intensity.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose , we perceive a concentration of fresh cane juice, surrounded by a hint of solvent which very quickly changes into gently floral and velvety notes. The cane is aromatic, intense and sweet at the same time.
With aeration, the rum retains its stature and balance, always with a soft and very fragrant impression at the same time.
The mouth is velvety as can be, the rum slips over the taste buds like a silken cloth loaded with flavors of very ripe cane. It is sometimes seasoned with a hint of pepper, a touch of chestnut, candied herb, or even very fatty almond.
The finish is soft and warm, like a peppercorn loaded with hot cane juice.
