This Cane Island bottled rum was column distilled on the island of Trinidad at Angostura Distillers.
It has been aged in the distillery's tropical climate, in American white oak barrels, for 8 years.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose settles into a delicate, mellow plant cocoon, with a few marshmallows adding to the cozy ambience. The powdered sugar begins to flutter, bringing with it hints of dark fruits such as blackberry, blackcurrant and delicate blueberry. A hint of oil marks the island's "industrial" style.
Aeration reveals a greater variety of fruit, without offering a full armful. Exotic fruits are still present, as are figs and prunes. The oily, mechanical side is joined by a vegetal touch, as in a roasted resinous branch.
The entry into the mouth is round, as the aromas rush in en masse. The sensation is then quite unusual, as we oscillate constantly between the sweetness of the fruit and the more striking side of the toasted resin. The two poles eventually come together to give birth to a pastry-like register of marzipan and cherry pit.
The finish leaves a spicy, slightly tannic impression on the taste buds.
" Not so easy to grasp, this rum hides a complexity allied with sweetness..."
