Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve is older, richer and sweeter than Dalmore 15 Years.
It is aged in ex-sherry, Cabernet Sauvignon and American white oak barrels (70%, 10% and 20% of the total respectively).
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this whisky transports us into the smoky atmosphere of a living room with leather armchairs. On the coffee tables, a mild coffee, a vanilla latte, a milk chocolate and some caramel cookies. The cereal roaster is not far away, and a few softly malted and toasted aromas reach us.
Aeration wipes the slate clean and the focus shifts to the wood, with beeswaxed oak. Its fibers are gorged with a very soft plant milk, scented with sweet spices like vanilla.
On the palate, the sweetness of the cereals is haloed by toasty, smoky touches, then quickly buttered and caramelized. As in a jam pot, the fruit thickens and reduces, until it becomes a sticky juice. One thinks in turn of cooked yellow fruit, oranges in marmalade, fruit pastes, quince jam, all topped with a cinnamon stick.
The finish is a delicious, malty cereal, with brown tobacco adding a surprising herbal note.
