Deadhead Dark Chocolate Rum is a 5-year-old rum infused with roasted cocoa.
This highly original bottle refers to the Mayan book of creation, which tells us that the monkey was the first attempt to create the human species. For this first attempt, the raw material used was mud and wood, while for the second attempt, man was created from cocoa.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: round - roasted - sweet spices
On the nose, there's no mistaking the goods: there's plenty of chocolate, as if cocoa powder had been diluted in the rum. There's also a very smooth, creamy, almost milky quality, giving this rum a very gourmand, regressive character.
Aeration doesn't alter the profile at all, perhaps more a very sweet side and a certain suave roundness from the vanilla and caramel.
The palate is very smooth, but we're pleasantly surprised by a little relief that avoids the trap of too much roundness. The chocolate borrows a little of the coffee's character, without betraying its promise of deliciousness.
The finish is a mocaccino-style blend of chocolate and coffee.
