As its name suggests, Dictador 100 Months Cafe has been aged for over 8 years in oak barrels (Andalusian "solera" method), and enriched with a maceration of coffee beans.
The result is an intense, rich rum with coffee aromas.
Nico's tasting notes
In brief: light - coffee - toasty woodiness - molasses - roasted nuts - pecans
On the nose, even though the coffee is present from the outset, we first become familiar with a light, floral rum that tickles the nostrils with its youthfulness. Like brandy poured into a freshly emptied cup of coffee, it stands out with all its strength and fruity freshness. Toasty woodiness, molasses and caramel are the unmistakable hallmarks of Dictador.
Passing the rum around the rim of the glass, the molasses and wood express heavily roasted nuts (pecans), bitter dark chocolate and, of course, coffee. Where Dictador's coffee usually seems to be the result of the blending of all these notes, here it has its own identity and a much more assertive fullness.
On the palate, there's no doubting the real taste of coffee. This time the cup is full and slightly cooled by the swig of rum poured into it. The texture is light and fluid, the coffee well roasted and blending beautifully with the nuts and molasses in the rum.
The finish is long and delicious, with lingering flavors of caramelized pecans.
"The Dictador is never as good as when it plays the coffee and roasting card to the hilt..."
