HSE presents to us at the start of 2023 this new vintage of the Cane d'Or with this plot cuvée n°2.
This white agricultural rum comes from sugar cane planted on the Verger and Coulon plots. These are located at the entrance to the distillery. Only one variety was planted: "canne d'or" (R570).
Distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2022, this rum has benefited from a long resting and brewing period.
Nico's tasting note of the HSE plot number 1 Canne d'Or 2016 vintage
The nose is typical of a Martinique agricole, with initial floral notes and lime zest. The cane quickly takes shape, with a vegetal, peppery backbone. It quickly takes over, lively and vibrant, delicately lemony. It's a very fragrant nose, never disturbed by dry vegetal or alcohol.
The palate is taken by storm by a round, mellow cane that coats the taste buds. It then sets about warming the palate with all the pepper it has inherited from its bark. In this warmth, exotic fruits like pineapple and passion fruit melt and intermingle, with an almost syrupy sensation.
The finish returns to slightly peppery cane, with a striking lime, giving the impression of a ready-made ti'punch.
"This white rum offers a very gourmet texture, oily and fragrant like a ti'punch..."
As a complement to this note, here are the main points our colleague Laurent made about this rum: on the nose, it's fresh, expressive, vegetal, even slightly earthy, with notes of cane juice and lime; explosive on the palate, still with the cane/lime duo; powerful, vegetal finish. You can find his note on his blog Les rhums de l'homme à la poussette.
