Labourdonnais Fusion Calamondin is an agricultural rum produced by the Labourdonnais distillery in Mauritius. The calamondin grown on the estate is macerated in this pure cane juice rum.
Calamondin is a small citrus fruit from Asia, a cross between the mandarin and the kumquat. This fruit can also be grown in pots, on a sunny terrace or balcony.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the peel of a blood or bitter orange has been expressed. Its juice is concentrated, like an orange essential oil. There's a spicy, honeyed quality, with a faint hint of sweet vegetal.
Round and warm on the palate, it takes all the sweetness of sugar to balance the bitterness and acidity of this kumquat-like orange. The zest resonates with cane pepper to warm the taste buds with a sparkling, spicy finish.
