Les Frères de la Côte Barbade Foursquare ex-Moscatel bottled in 2022 is a molasses rum from the island of Barbados. To minimize its carbon footprint, this rum crossed the Atlantic aboard the motorless sailing vessel Tres Ombres.
This is a blend of rums distilled by Foursquare, in column and iron stills. An 11-year aging process was initiated on site in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels. The rum was then transferred to Moscatel casks for a dynamic 4-month ageing period aboard the Frères de la Côte brig-goélette. On arrival in France, the rum underwent a further 9 months of maturation in the Saint-Étienne winery.
These barrels produced 910 units worldwide. They were bottled without any reduction in alcohol content.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is quiet and delicate at first, with vanilla slowly making its way alongside other sweet spices. Gradually, the oak takes over, sending out notes of toasted coconut and toasted nuts, coated in caramel.
With aeration, all the rum's greediness falls into place, but still without a hitch, despite a rather high degree. The wood is amply toasted, but also quite fatty and soothed by a vanilla balm, making this a definitively sweet yet intense experience.
The palate is like a liquid nougatine, still warm, sticking to the palate and delivering intense flavors of vanilla and nuts. The Foursquare signature is there for all to see, the American oak is handled to perfection and undoubtedly gains an extra point of deliciousness thanks to the moscatel.
The finish is very tasty, like a vanilla and coconut cream with milk chocolate.
"The crossing has once again been beneficial for this rum with its already enormous gourmet potential..."

I don't know it and I haven't tasted it yet, but it won't be long now.
