Guadeloupe's Longueteau has created the first XO brut de fût and brut de distillation rum.
This very old agricultural rum was distilled, then directly smoked and finally bottled. It has not been reduced to water at any stage of its production.
This cuvée is the result of ageing Genesis Blanc Batch 1, a brut de colonne white rum distilled from red cane only. It is then aged in fine-grain new oak barrels with low toast for 6 years.
2000 bottles were bottled, with an alcohol content of 70.9%.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, an enormous greediness expresses itself without delay, and without showing even an ounce of aggressiveness. Full-bodied white nuts nestle amid tender nougat and butterscotch drizzled with just-reduced cane juice.
With aeration, the candied, patinated cane juice brings out the best in the wood. Oak and cane have communicated and exchanged during aging, to develop a simply harmonious elegance, composed of precious woods and sweet spices.
On the palate, we melt under the spell of this mellow candied cane bonbon. Power is the order of the day, of course, but it's coated with almond nougat, honey, sweet almond, mastic, tonka bean, vanilla and a whole host of savory, tender, brioche-like notes, full of umami.
The finish is more elegant, with a more traditional agricultural profile of dried fruit, weathered cane and sweet, cigar-box-style woody spices.
"A gourmet monster, the culmination of this fine Genesis line..."
