Mhoba Strand 151 is a pure cane juice rum that comes straight from South Africa .
Like Mhoba Strand 101 , it is a blend of Mhoba Select Reserve Glass Cask and Mhoba Pot Stilled High Ester rums. The only difference with its little brother, the Strand 151 is bottled at barrel strength and as its name suggests, it is 151 proof or 75.5°.
This rum is named after its creator and MHOBA brand ambassador, Knud STRAND.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, it's always a pleasure to rediscover Mhoba's generosity and madness, and all the more so in this irresistibly devastating burst. The solvent-boosted cane juice is very powerful, with a slight patina of honey, sweet spices and resin.
Aeration removes the more volatile solvent notes, giving us access to a more consistent layer of rum. This reveals a thicker, chocolatey heart, perfumed like a brioche.
On the palate, although the power cannot be ignored, it feels more like a tidal wave of flavors than any kind of burn. Candied cane juice glides across the palate like liquid honey, with an oily texture accompanied by notes of solvent and very ripe exotic fruit.
The finish still offers the same pleasant consistency, but is now even thicker, with a hint of pastry aromas such as yeast, almond and kernels.
