Conceived by Luca Gargano based on an idea by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco , Mother Mesccia pays homage to a historic Monegasque product: mesccia. This exceptional white rum blends the authentic terroir of Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye in Haiti with Monaco's artisanal expertise, resulting in a unique and refined creation.
Inspired by a 17th-century tradition, Mother Mescacia revisits the original recipe, once a blend of Caribbean rums and European spirits such as vermouth and Marsala. Today, this collaboration between the Principality of Monaco and Velier revives this heritage in a contemporary form: a pure, unblended rum, intended for aging in casks that previously held vermouth and Marsala.
This white rum constitutes the "mother" of the future Mesccia range , a noble base from which exceptional aged rums will be born.
Mother Mescacia is made from Cristalline sugarcane , grown by Michel Sajous in Haiti. Its artisanal production process includes:
-
a long fermentation of pure cane juice with indigenous yeasts ,
-
a first distillation over a wood fire in a discontinuous Müller still in Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye,
-
then a second distillation in Monaco , in the Khote still of the first Monegasque distillery founded in 2017.
It is at this stage that the full aromatic personality and unique character of Mother Mesccia is forged.
