Naga Full Proof is the brut de fût version of Indonesian rum Naga Edition Siam.
The rum was column distilled in 2011 before spending 10 years in a tropical climate. The barrels used by the distillery are oak casks that have contained bourbon in the past.
It is this rum which is usually reduced to 40°. Here it is presented to you at its natural degree of 62.3°. In fact, there was no reduction before the bottling.
This is a limited edition of 2752 numbered bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, all the deliciousness of American oak leaps out of the glass to envelop us lasciviously. Soft wood, coconut, nuts and, of course, vanilla are all present on a massive scale, with a non-aggressive alcohol that, on the contrary, develops the whole.
With aeration, the bourbon barrel loosens and relaxes. The more toasty, nutty notes dissipate slightly, giving way to some sweet yellow fruit. The vanilla is as present as ever, reinforced by a few peppercorns.
On the palate, the attack is surprisingly spicy, floral and perfumed, a quality not necessarily apparent on the nose. Indeed, a sort of incense smoke spreads across the palate, with hints of cedar and Armenian paper, and leads us quietly towards a more familiar woodiness. Vanilla and coconut are still present, reinforced by an exotic pepper that adds color.
The finish is sweet and savory, with caramelized nuts.
"A rum that is both pleasant and surprising, very fragrant, with a welcome strength..."
