Old Pulteney Huddart is aged in bourbon casks and finished in peated whisky barrels.
Its name is a tribute to Captain Joseph Huddart, who played a major role in the construction of Pulteneytown. Pulteneytown was annexed to Wick, the distillery town, in 1902. The distillery is located on Huddart Street.
Florian's tasting notes
On the nose, the first impression is of rising smoke and iodine notes. At first glance, Old Pulteney's identity is kept in the background. Finally, the classic apple-pear aroma emerges. Wax and caramel are coated with vanilla.
Soft texture on the palate, round and saline. Once again, smoke - very light - and notes of maritime peat set the ball rolling. This salt blends with white fruits (apple and pear) and vanilla. A hint of caramel appears, along with a touch of wood.
The finish stretches out on soft smoke.
"A pleasant whisky that's not peated but incorporates the aromas. It's smooth and light."
