Papalin 7 ans is a blend of molasses rums from two renowned Jamaican distilleries, Worthy Park and Hampden.
It's 80% Worthy Park, 10% Hampden HCLF aged in ex-bourbon casks, and 10% Hampden HCLF, this time aged in ex-sherry casks. The acronym HCLF stands for "Hampden Light Continental Flavoured". These rums were distilled in iron stills and aged in tropical climates in their respective distilleries.
Made by Italian Luca Gargano, this blend was bottled in December 2021.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a typically Jamaican "banana bread". What's less usual is that the pastry is filled with very ripe orchard fruits and bright exotic fruits, all carried by a beautiful aromatic concentration.
Aeration brings out a hint of copper, which naturally evolves on pits and dried fruit, to create a truly pastry-like profile.
The palate is supple, but also sticky like a resin made of molasses and pine essences. Very ripe exotic fruits quickly enter the dance, delivering their velvety, silky, consistent flesh for an extremely pleasing touch. Tender vanilla oak closes the step, while discreetly abounding in its direction.
The finish is long, pastry-like, dominated by stone, bitter almond and a slight bitterness of lime zest reminiscent of cane juice.
"A lovely summary of what Jamaica does best, between fruit intensity and pastry indulgence..."
