This very old Charrette rum is the latest addition to the premium "Charrette Héritage" range from Réunion's emblematic distillery.
The brand has been missing an aged rum, and now it's here!
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, this is a traditional sweet rum that has performed well in the barrel. It emerges dressed in honey, tobacco and vanilla, with a hint of herbs that give it a certain freshness. Its heart is rather light, so it has acquired these aromas with delicacy.
Aeration brings a little more body, with a surprisingly farmy touch, followed by coconut and toasted almonds.
The palate is fairly light, with a barrel that seems well toasted and delivers strongly toasted notes. Some fruit takes over, with orange peel and mirabelle plums. Then it's back to the wood, with vanilla and toasted coconut.
The finish is light, with caramelized wood and a hint of cane juice.
"The pleasant expression of a cask that dresses up a rather simple rum..."
In comparison, Charrette Extra Vieux is a more mature rum that has acquired a certain depth over time, an essential ingredient for developing rarer, more elegant aromas.
