Saint Aubin 1819 History Collection Isle De France is one of the proudest achievements of the Mauritian distillery Saint Aubin.
Like the History Collection Mauritius version, this is a blend of their finest aged rums. One part comes from the pot still of the Saint Aubin rum house, the other from the copper column of the Saint Aubin estate rum distillery.
The harvest year for all the rums in this range is 2005.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is powerfully aromatic, very round and enveloping. Like a grenadine syrup on steroids, the rum coats every nook and cranny of the nostrils, dabbing them softly and smoothly. Roses and red berries vie for our attention and play immoderately with their charm.
Aeration and rest lead the rum to aromas of sweet coffee, caramelized pecans and a warm, roasted ambience. Baked sugar shines through from start to finish, in a gourmet, confectionery-like nose.
The palate is both round and dry, sweet and roasted. The attack is consistent and greedy, with crushed red fruit and generous flesh. Then coffee enters the scene, accompanied by molasses-coated walnuts, for a gripping mid-palate.
The finish is sweet, still vacillating between tangy fruit and sweet coffee.
"A very gourmet rum, a sweet and tangy facet of the Saint Aubin range..."
