Scallywag is bottled by Douglas Laing and produced in "small batches". It is a blend of Speyside single malt whiskies aged in ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks.
The blend's distilleries include Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes.
Florian's tasting notes
Orange-gold dress. Thick, slow-flowing tears.
On the nose, depth, towards the sherry, cocoa, nuts, rancio with pretty raisins, caramel. A sensation of buttery pastry and pepper. Very surprising, but ultimately clear: fruit combined with honey .... from the arbouse!
On the palate, it's good, creamy, coating. The sherry announces itself with chocolate and candied orange zest, raisin and plum, a little vanilla-caramel paste. Balanced, peppery oak.
The finish is of medium length, with lemon zest and wood. Somewhat vegetal.
"A very pretty nose, inviting you to indulge, and there's no mistaking it, for the palate is indeed very gourmand. A good end-of-meal dram..."
