Abelha

A Lusophone term meaning bee, Abelha is also the brand name of a cachaça distillery founded by a community of farmers in the Brazilian state of Bahia with the help of the British.
Specializing in the production of traditional, artisanal cachaça, the small company has turned to organic production to add an ecological dimension to its products. In fact, Abelha refrains from burning its sugarcane fields.
The company's expertise is evident right from the cultivation stage, as the sugarcane plants benefit from the special conditions of the sandy soil.
Just like rum, cachaça comes from the distillation of sugar cane juice. Unlike rum which is distilled at around 70° and brought to the desired degree by adding spring water, cachaça is distilled at 40°. Depending on the type of cachaça, maturation takes place in stainless steel vats or in wooden barrels.
Today, it is a very well-known product throughout the world, notably for the design of the Caïpirinha. Read less
