Gordon & Macphail
Gordon & Macphail: over 120 years of history
In 1895, a grocery store was born in Scotland's Speyside region. It was Gordon & MacPhail. The founders, James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, began by selling tea, coffee, wines and spirits. They soon turned their attention to the region's single malts.
From 1915, an apprentice, John Urquhart, joined the company. He became responsible for selecting and maturing the region's whiskies. Gordon & Macphail became a true specialist.
Since then, the Urquhart family's expertise has been handed down from generation to generation. In fact, Gordon & MacPhail is one of the few companies to retain comfortable stocks after the Second World War.
A gradual diversification of business activities took place.
In 1968, the " Connoisseurs Choice " range was launched in emerging markets (France, USA, Italy and Holland). This represented the international variety of Scotch whisky.
Later, in 1993, the Urquhart family realized their dream of buying a distillery. The Benromach distillery reopened in 1998.
A bottler like no other
Three particularities perfectly represent the self-sacrifice of this independent bottler.
- the method. Having mastered maturation for centuries, they have their own casks within the distilleries. Their role is that of breeder and bottler.
- stocks, which benefit from their location on Speyside. Gordon & Macphail has the world's largest stocks of old vintage single malts.
- vintage traffic jams, absolutely unique. Mortlach 1939, 75 years old, bears witness to a bygone era.
Yet Gordon & Macphail doesn't descend into elitism.
They currently offer 5 ranges:
-Discovery", an introduction to various styles (Sherry, Bourbon, Fumé...).
-Connoisseurs Choice", an exploration of the world of Scotch whisky.
-Distillery Labels", a presentation of some of the distilleries that have placed their trust in the bottler's historic expertise.
-Private Collection", a premium range of rare single malts.
-Generations" presents the oldest whiskies available.
That's why Gordon & Macphail remains unique and iconic in the whisky world! Read less
