Kilchoman
The first distillery to set up on Islay in a century, Kilchoman is young. After three years of planning, production began in 2005. Anthony Wills is the man behind the project.
The distillery expanded in 2007. Then, in 2010, John McLellan, previously manager at Bunnahabhain, took over the reins at Kilchoman. Sadly, he passed away in 2016.
Since then, Islay Heads has taken over as managing director.
Located in the west of the island, Kilchoman is a distillery farm. It produces and distills barley.
Of course, only a minority of the barley comes from Islay fields. However, Kilchoman tries to respect the spirit of its creation: local barley for its 100% Islay edition, a small malting era for its moderate peat...
Finally, Kilchoman offers a number of recurring, non-chill-filtered editions. These include Machir Bay, their signature single malt, Sanaig, Loch Gorm and 100% Islay.
Single casks are also regularly released. Read less
