Mocambo is a Mexican rum from the Licores Veracruz distillery, which was established at the end of the 19th century in the town of Orizaba, Mexico. Later, in 1951, it was taken over by the Villanueva Barragán family, who still run it today. That same year, it was moved to Cordoba, still in the state of Veracruz. The distillery produces about 40 different spirits, including a wide range of liqueurs and tequilas.

The state of Veracruz is the country's main sugarcane producer. Mocambo rum is thus produced from molasses, but also from pure cane juice, distilled in columns and stills respectively. It is aged in white oak barrels in a cellar with a capacity of around 2000 barrels. The latter is located at an altitude of 800 metres, which allows it to reduce the evaporation of the rums, and thus to prolong their ageing for up to thirty years.

The range consists of a "ron blanco", and various aged rums ("añejo"). Among these is an original pistol-shaped bottle containing a 10-year old rum. The house's emblematic cuvée is the Mocambo 20 ans "arte edicion". The artist Victor Fernandez Limon signed this unique work, inspired by pre-Columbian art. The bottle is covered with fibres similar to those used by the Aztecs to make their parchments. Read less
