Roble Viejo
The story of Roble Viejo
Roble Viejo is a brand created by four Venezuelan friends at the end of the 20th century. Hailing from the central state of Yaracuy, these enthusiasts set out to produce a great Venezuelan rum. The team includes Giorgio Melis, Pampero 's maestro ronero for some fifty years. This chemical engineer knows all there is to know about the Venezuelan rum tradition, and the " DOC Ron de Venezuela ". This Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée requires the use of local molasses, a minimum ageing period of 2 years, and a minimum degree of 40%.
Roble Viejo rum production
Roble Viejo rums are molasses rums, produced in a complex of 5 distillation columns. They have an alcohol content of 96% at the exit of these columns, and are therefore described as light rums.
After this distillation stage, the rums are transported to Ocumare del Tuy, south of Caracas. Here, they are placed in oak barrels for ageing ("Roble" means "oak" in Spanish). The use of American ex-bourbon oak takes precedence, and neither solera nor topping is practised, despite the high proportion of angels in the country.
Roble Viejo rums are slightly sweet, at less than 10 grams per liter.
The range comprises two rums.Extra Anejo is a blend of rums aged from 8 to 12 years.Ultra Anejo, a blend of 12-year-old rums aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. Read less
