Seychelles
The Seychelles are not known for their sugar cane production: in fact, even today, sugar cane is grown on an artisanal basis, in small quantities. This does not prevent the production of quality rum. Its particularity stems from the fact that sugar cane grows on granite soil, which is not very generous compared with the fertile volcanic soils of some rum-producing countries.
There are several distilleries in the various districts of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, the main islands of the Seychelles archipelago.
The main rum found in the Seychelles is Takamaka, the only Seychelles rum to be exported worldwide. It has been produced at the Trois Frères distillery in Victoria Mahé since 2002. Read less
