Barbados 2015 Fireworks 46°: Description and customer reviews

Fireworks is a collection of 40 magnums of whiskies, rums and other spirits sourced from all four corners of the world.

Only two bottlings are offered in 70 cl format including this rum from Barbados. Each vintage in this series features a unique label inspired by the work of Jinta Hirayama dating from 1877. This series also pays tribute to the ancestral art of Japanese fireworks.

This is a molasses rum from the 2015 vintage produced using a process specific to the Foursquare distillery. This house produces a blend of two rums, the first distilled in a column and the second in a pot still. The whole was aged in Barbados for 5 years in a barrel that previously contained bourbon. The aging continued in the Cognac region for 4 additional years in an old rum barrel.

The unique barrel n° FS15AU07 gave birth to 333 copies.

Yoann's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is disconcerting. Although the usual markers of grated coconut and vanilla appear after a few seconds, it's fruity notes that mark the initial nose. Tropical fruits, supported by a vegetal side, tickle our sense of smell. After a few minutes of aeration, notes of almond powder accompany the finely grated coconut. The nose becomes more pastry-like, with a smooth caramel cream.

On the palate , the attack is round and fluid. The rum takes its place without much difficulty with a rich vanilla. The fruits then take their place with timid notes of cherry and a more pronounced blackcurrant side. The menthol of the nose returns with its freshness accompanied by very ripe tropical fruits. With a little rest, the creamy side encountered on the nose returns for ever more indulgence. It is accompanied by a smooth caramel.

The finish is on stewed, almost caramelized fruits.
