This Bielle rhum vieux agricole was distilled and casked in 2008. It was bottled in 2018 in Marie-Galante after 10 years of tropical aging in the distillery's cellars.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the strength of honeyed oak immediately carries us away into a mellow, woody ambience, shining like old gold. Fresh, mentholated planty scents soon follow. They herald the arrival of cane and oily citrus.
Aeration brings out a vinous side, enhanced by a veil of solvent. Very ripe grapes and a very fresh, herbal, mentholated vegetal side. The cane has a lovely patina of soft wood, making the rum particularly appetizing.
On the palate, there's a 100% Bielle style that didn't show much on the nose. Candied fruits such as mirabelle plums and other yellow plums join candied orange peel and milk chocolate. The sweetness is total, and the tender, spicy white woodiness in no way spoils the party - quite the contrary.
The finish is a little drier and spicier, returning to some fresh cane juice.
"A very varied and original Bielle, which regains its well-known identity on the palate..."
