Montebello rhum vieux 8 ans 42° - old version : Description and customer reviews

This Montebello rum is aged for 8 years in oak barrels before being reduced to 42° and bottled.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose of this rum is immediately very rich and pastry-like. It's typically Guadeloupean, with a resinous, vegetal edge that gives it extra class. The woodiness is precious and distinguished, with raisins and the wineiness of a sweet white. The rum continues to gain in complexity while maintaining its balance, which is very pleasant. It then takes on a gourmet edge with marzipan and amaretto, not forgetting the sweet cane juice scent of a white rhum agricole.
Olive appears with aeration, enriching the picture. It's gripping, and at one point we even wonder if we're not heading for an overflow of aromas, so "loaded" is this rum. The stewed fruit can be felt even when the nose is far from the glass, as can the family of pastry aromas that follow. But when you get closer, you get something more complex, more floral and finely fruity, with waxed oak and hints of walnut.

On the palate, back to the heart of the matter, with cane and a crescendo of heat, albeit restrained. The woodiness builds at the same time, with spices and dried fruit in its wake. The mid-palate is full and thick, with the pastry side of dried raisins and stewed fruits including apple and apricot. The whole remains finely woody and spicy, which once again ensures that it doesn't cross the line into gluttony.

The finish is as rich as ever, with plump prunes and cooked banana.

"This rum is a very fine example of what Guadeloupe can offer in controlled generosity..."

7 opinion

  1. danny soetaert

    Pleasant rum

  2. Morgan Louis

It's excellent, a little surprising at first but after tasting it a second time I found it really nice to drink as a digestive. However, at €70 a bottle, I find it a little steep.

  3. Alain

    Corresponds less to my taste

  4. FREDERIC KAPP

    Interesting discovery

  5. Fabrice

    Not my style

  6. Dany Renard

How do you expect me to rate this rum knowing that I haven't received it yet . Dany

  7. Laurent

To my taste, one of the best, even if it's really the pastry side that stands out. Complex, well-balanced, it's very gourmand.
