Mocambo is a Mexican rum from the Licores Veracruz distillery, which was established in the late 19th century in the Mexican town of Orizaba. Later, in 1951, it was taken over by the Villanueva Barragán family, who still run it today. That same year, it was moved to Cordoba, still in the state of Veracruz. The distillery produces some forty different spirits, including a wide range of liqueurs and tequilas.

The state of Veracruz is the country's main sugarcane producer. Mocambo rum is produced from molasses and pure cane juice, distilled in columns and alembics respectively. Aging takes place in white oak barrels, in a cellar with a capacity of around 2,000 barrels. The latter is located at an altitude of 800 metres, which reduces evaporation of the rums, and thus prolongs their ageing for up to thirty years.

The range includes a "ron blanco", and various aged rums ("añejo"). These include an original pistol-shaped bottle containing a 10-year-old rum. The house's signature cuvée is Mocambo 20 ans "arte edicion". Artist Victor Fernandez Limon designed this unique work, inspired by pre-Columbian art. The bottle is covered with fibers similar to those used by the Aztecs to make their parchments. Read less
