The story of Pilleur d'arômes

The origins of Pilleur d'arômes rhums arrangés lie with Clément, the son of a winegrower and a spirits enthusiast. His first arrangés were made with friends, in a 10-liter dame-jeanne found at a flea market. Each year, they would create a new recipe in the autumn, to be enjoyed together the following summer.

From this activity, which had become a passion, was born the desire to undertake, and to invite everyone to share in this convivial ritual. Clément created Hedonisterie, a website offering all the equipment needed to make rhum arrangé. Then, after giving advice to his customers, he felt the need to offer his own creations.

It was via a crowdfunding campaign that Pilleur d'arômes took its first steps, and the first "professional" macerations began.

Production of Pilleur d'arômes blended rums

Pilleurs d'arômes arranged rums are unique in that they are 100% French. Indeed, the rum on which they are based is an organic molasses rum produced at the Baptiste distillery in Cantal. Clément took the daring gamble of using an artisanal rum with an atypical profile, as it leans towards the grand-arôme.

The molasses undergoes a very long fermentation (14 days), in the presence of vinasses, to obtain an extremely aromatic must. This mash is then distilled in a small 400-liter Charentais still. Repasse distillation produces a "made-to-measure" rum with personality.

The fruit used in our recipes is also carefully selected. They come fromFrench organic farms, and are always harvested in season, when fully ripe. The spices and sugar are also carefully selected, since they too come from organic and fair-trade sources.

Pilleur d'arômes blended rums

The Pilleur d'arômes range began with 4 different recipes, offering original taste profiles. These include Orange Café arranged rum (in the style of the famous rum 44), or Pomme Cannelle, with its sweet autumnal flavors.

These rhums arrangés capture the unique flavors of France's terroirs, thanks in particular to oranges from Provence, lemons from Menton, or apples from Montauban. Read less
