1423 SBS Denmark 2014 Enghaven 4 years 50.6°: Description and customer reviews

1423 SBS Denmark 2014 Enghaven 4 Year Old is unusual. This single cask rum was distilled at the Enghaven micro-distillery in northern Denmark. In addition, this molasses rum is a blend of column andstill distillates.

Put in Port barrels in 2014, we bottled this raw barrel rum in 2018: it has a strength of 50.6°.

Total production is just 239 bottles, making this a very confidential cuvée.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a vegetal, medicinal profile. Yet there's a certain lightness to it, a presence that doesn't impose itself too much. The rum rises in fine wisps, like a light veil. Camphor dominates the profile, with a hint of anise and licorice.

A little aeration is needed to arrive at more consistent, fleshy notes, starting with a slightly licorice-like chocolate and walnut stain. The coffee flows over the toasty woodiness, carrying vegetal notes of aromatics and resin, with a hint of bitterness.

Round but intense on the palate, with a vegetal, camphorated attack. The sensation of roasting is quite pronounced. This is a complex rum that moves between roasted nuts, dried fruit, pits and resin. There's an unsettling combination of dried fruit and mellow tannins, as you might find in an old agricole.

The finish is relatively light, on dried apricot and resiny molasses.

"This rum is above all marked by its medicinal notes, but it still takes us on a complete tour of a vast palette of aromas..."
