Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua was one of the first Caribbean islands to give up sugarcane cultivation in the 1970s. However, it had a large number of plantations with the arrival of English settlers who imported sugar cane from Barbados.
Today, Antigua is the second Caribbean island to import sugar cane for its rums.
Rum began to be marketed on the island with the arrival of the Portuguese, who came to work on the plantations and, sensing the product's potential, opened Rum Shops.
Rhum d'Antigua are light rums in the spirit of the Bacardi brand. The rum is made from molasses. It is distilled in a column still at the country's only distillery, the Antigua Distillery in Saint John's harbor.
The distillery produces a wide range of rums: white, amber and aged. Aging takes place in the distillery's nearby cellars.
Antigua's main rums are Cavalier and English Harbour. Read less
