Kirk & Sweeney 23 40°: Description and customer reviews

Kirk et Sweeney 23 is a Dominican Republic rum distilled in Santiago De Los Caballero and aged in American oak barrels.

The number 23 refers to the 23 years of age of the oldest rums in this blend.

Each bottle is hand-numbered.

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: nuts - caramel - woody - walnut - molasses

The nose of this rum is quite clear, though on molasses and nuts, particularly walnuts. These nuts are lightly toasted and caramelized, as is the woodiness, which seems a little toasted. These notes are balanced with each other, and the overall profile is sweet.
Aeration accentuates the nuts and, to a lesser extent, the woodiness. Nuts of all kinds, including pecan and macadamia, are well caramelized. The caramel is buttery and salty, with a hint of vanilla.

The palate is drier than the nose. Flavors of caramel, toasted wood and molasses are the first to come through. The sensation is both toasty and salty, like dark caramel. Sugar takes a back seat.

The finish gives way to roasted nuts.

"This light rum has been perfumed by the aromas of its barrel..."
