The Philippines is one of the world's top ten sugarcane producers. The country's tropical climate and volcanic soil produce cane that is both complex and sweet.

It wasn't until the end of the 18th century that the Philippines began distilling rum. Under American rule, rum production flourished for several years, but was in danger of coming to a complete halt during Prohibition.
Today, the country boasts several distilleries producing rums that were initially local (rum is indeed a very popular drink in the Philippines) but are now exported worldwide: Tanduay, for example, is the world's second largest rum producer by volume!

The main Philippine rums are the famous Don Papa, Tanduay and Boracay Rum (both produced at the Tanduay distillery), Emperador whose distillery offers several local rums, Ginebra and Tondeña both produced by the Tondeña distillery, and the Limtuaco distillery known for over 160 years and which offers a wide range of spirits including Palawan Blanco Rum, Old Captain Superior Rum and Inferno Flaming Rum...
