Coruba NPU 74°: Description and customer reviews

NPU stands for Nec Plus Ultra. Coruba NPU is a golden rum whose strength is particularly well-suited to making Tiki cocktails (Zombie, Mai Tai...).

Nico's tasting notes

In brief: powerful - ripe fruit - olive - leather - pastry - raisins

The nose is extremely powerful, neither round nor mellow, truly brutal. A Jamaican identity of acidic fermenting fruit and metal is quickly detected.
With a little time and aeration, the rum continues to project its power, but it starts to become more and more aromatic. It's still rough, initially offering black olive, leather and copper, always with a certain acidity. Then it gets rounder and shows itself in a more sympathetic light. It seduces us with its pastry skills, preparing a pineapple upside-down cake, then macerating a few raisins, giving it the air of a grand aroma.

On the palate, the power is much easier to grasp. We're in the presence of a Hampden-type rum, but not too wild, rather cool and fruity. Spices, butter and caramel come together in a gourmet cake. A few drops of water make it very drinkable and creamy, like a Jamaican rum that's become more docile.

The finish is just right, long and rich, very pastry-like, with its raisins and candied fruit.

"Although inevitably a little rough given its titration, this rum has everything you'd expect from a Jamaican cocktail..."
