The O Reizinho distillery was officially registered in 2013 on Madeira Island, but it's actually a much older affair. Indeed, before that, the Ferreira family had already been producing their "aguardente de cana" (canebrandy) for several generations, for themselves and a few friends. The distillery is still located in the basement of the house, and the traditional method remains unchanged.

Sugar is sourced from local farmers, who cultivate the 6 varieties of sugar cane found on the small plots of land on this mountainous island.

It's an agricultural rum, made from pure sugarcane juice, which comes out of their traditional Portuguese still.

3,000 liters were produced in the first year, 2013, and production has expanded to 15,000 liters in 2018.
