Ferroni Gin Juillet 44° confinement edition: Description and customer reviews

Gin Juillet confinement edition is Guillaume Ferroni's latest folly. During the Covid 19 epidemic and subsequent lockdown, he entrusted the entire stock of alcohol intended for his Gin Juillet to local pharmacies, in order to prepare hydroalcoholic gel. Not one to sit idly by, he found a way to make the most of his time in isolation.

A great enthusiast of spirits and cocktails, over the years he has conducted numerous distillation experiments. This has given rise to numerous eaux-de-vie, including cardamom, caraway, fennel and incense. He has also revived forgotten liqueurs such as eau de pucelle and eau des carmes, while distilling his own rums, gins and bitters.

He therefore decided to re-distill the various samples from his past trials, in order to create a spirit that would serve as the base for this unique gin. This was supplemented with leftoverorganic wheat alcohol used for the July gin, as well as rum. In all, 45 different alcohols are used in the recipe!

But that's not all! As the usual fruits of Gin Juillet are unavailable, Guillaume has assembled a bouquet ofherbs from the garden of the Château des Creissauds. Hyssop, laurel, myrtle, rosemary, wild chamomile, marjoram and lemon balm, among others, also feature in the composition.

All this was distilled in an ancient wood-fired still, as gas supplies were difficult at this time of year. This extraordinary recycling resulted in a completely mad spirit, represented by this chess piece. Yet another testament to Guillaume Ferroni's mischief and genius!

Pauline's tasting notes

A simply exuberant nose. Initially floral, it evolves towards lemon balm, cardamom and a hint of licorice.
A hint of almond milk appears.
The palate is well-balanced, with clear aromatic development. Planty, almost medicinal notes, followed by floral, then licorice notes for an aniseed finish.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, all the freshness of citrus fruits from the south of France, with lemon leaves, grapefruit peel and pulp, and intensely aromatic flowers. The juniper berry adds its bitterness with great precision, for an extremely refreshing profile.

On the palate, citrus also leads the way, with yellow lemon in all its forms. The freshness is as pleasing as ever, and the Sichuan pepper and juniper berries are no contradiction.

"A very fresh, citrusy gin, an invitation to summer gin...".
