The history of the TCRL brand

TCRL (Transcontinental Rum Line) is the rum brand launched by La Maison du Whisky in 2016. This importer and distributor of spirits decided to become an independent bottler in a nod to the famous transatlantic voyages that are the stuff of rum lovers' dreams. This TransContinental Rum Line evokes the great voyage of rum barrels during its golden age.

A sailor's drink par excellence, rum was a favorite on cargo ships and military vessels, not least because it was healthier than water, which tended to stagnate on long voyages.

Rum travelled to satisfy customers on the Old Continent, but not only there, as it soon became clear that rums should be aged in a continental climate, as evaporation, otherwise known as " Angels' Share ", is much lower in Europe.

What's more, the Scottish and Cognac cellar masters already had a great deal of expertise, so managing these exotic casks wasn't a problem - quite the opposite in fact.

An independent bottler is a rum selector who chooses casks from different distilleries to bottle under his own brand. This differs from distillery brands or blenders, who bottle their own rums or specific blends. TCRL 's aim is to offer a panorama of rums from the different seas of the globe, with a variety of bottlings representative of their original styles.

TCRL rums

TCRL (Transcontiental Rum Line) offers expressions from rum greats such as Guyana and Jamaica, as well as lesser-known origins such as Fiji.

The rums are presented in different versions: some are reduced to 43% or 46%, others are offered brut de fût, with no reduction, and still others pay homage to the navy with a 57% " Navy Proof ".

For the first time in the world of independent bottlers, TCRL has gone so far as to indicate the proportions of tropical and continental aging. Both methods have their supporters and detractors, but each has its advantages. Tropical aging is rougher and more concentrated, while continental aging is gentler and finer.

The selections are full of surprises , such as this young, gourmet Guadeloupe 2014, this Jamaican from Worthy Park in Navy Strength or this brut de fût from Guyana distilled in 2004. Read less
